The family course 'Life with Usher' will take place from 10 - 14 August.

The theme for the adults will be about vision and speech understanding. A mum and an adult son will share their experiences of life with Usher.
Plenty of time has also been set aside to share experiences in the parent group; what is it like to be a mum and dad of a child with Usher? How to talk about difficult topics, and how to look after siblings. Geir Aker has agreed to contribute to both 'Dad Talk' and 'Family Conversations', and psychology specialists from the Sibling Project will contribute to the topic of looking after siblings.
When we see who signs up, we'll create a separate programme for the children and young people. So far, we have booked Erling Fidjestøl to contribute to the work with the young people. The children and young people will also meet others with Usher and their siblings.
We facilitate various types of activities where children and young people have the opportunity to forge new friendships.

About Geir Aker:
Throughout his adult life, Geir Aker has worked to develop people as individuals and groups. Clear communication is Geir's favourite topic, and in conversations, lectures and cohabitation courses it comes out well. Geir held a PREP cohabitation course at Eikholt for the first time in 2011, and has held courses for various groups at Eikholt for the past two years.
In addition, work at Forsvartet, NAV, a rehabilitation company and a school has given Geir broad expertise in relationships and communication."

About Erling Fidjestøl:
Erling has a Master's degree in Family Therapy and works as a therapist at Robust and also teaches/supervises students at VID University College, among others. Robust is a low-threshold, city-wide counselling service for children, young people and their families who are struggling with conflicts, concerns or problems of various kinds.
About the sibling project: At the course, we will also focus on sibling care, and have therefore invited the psychology specialists from the Sibling Project www.sibs.no. On 1 January 2018, a change was made to the Health Personnel Act, which means that healthcare professionals are obliged to identify the need for support among siblings of children with chronic health conditions. Siblings of children with disabilities often experience practical and emotional challenges in everyday life and have an increased risk of developing mental health problems.
