Project report: Time for Hearing

"Time for Hearing" is a project that was carried out in the period 2014-2016 and consisted of a
course series for 6 adults with combined visual and hearing impairment/deafblindness.
The project addresses the need for optimisation of both vision and hearing residual, as well as the need for good time and close follow-up in the hearing aid trial phase for combined vision and hearing impaired people.

Six people with combined visual and hearing impairment, all diagnosed with Usher II, went through a 3-day hearing optimisation course at Eikholt. Based on the user's wishes and needs, the aim of the course was to optimise the use of residual hearing for the individual.

With the use of the IOWA test, an audiovisual test of speech understanding, we were able to look at improvement in
speech perception after optimising the hearing course on five out of six users.
