Eikholt test version 2.0, new features and improvements

The Eikholt test, which is used for audiovisual mapping of speech understanding, has undergone significant improvements this autumn. At the same time, the project has received important financial support that will contribute to the national dissemination of the test.

New features and improvements

In the autumn of 2024, the Eikholt test has been updated to make it even more user-friendly and flexible. Among the most important new features are:

  • Support for customised tests: It is now possible to create and save test templates for different types of tests. This makes it easier to standardise testing across clinics and ensures consistent testing between different professionals. A new user-friendly tool allows the clinic manager to set up different tests in any order, which can then be entered by everyone.
  • Improved hearing aid evaluation: New features have been added to the test to document and compare results with different hearing aid settings, as well as with and without hearing aids. This provides a better basis for comparing different hearing aids and hearing aid settings in the different test conditions.
  • Automatic comparison with norm data: The report module can now automatically compare the patient's results with norm data when the test is performed with standardised settings. You will then be able to see the test subject's scores (in both audiovisual, auditory and visual conditions) compared to the normal population.
  • New test lists: In addition to the 552 "standard sentences", there are now separate lists that allow you to customise your testing even more. The new lists include "3-word utterances", "Simple sentences", "Specific actors" and "Swedish sentences".
  • Simplified layout: A number of new features, such as automatic opening of video window on external screen, automatic check for updates and a new, modernised user interface with even more help texts make the test more user-friendly and easier to get started with.
  • Separate support page for recipients: All recipients of the test will have access to our new support page for the Eikholt test. Here you can download the latest version of the test, download demo files, watch instructional videos, find the latest test documentation and more.

National distribution with support from the DAM Foundation

This autumn, the DAM Foundation announced that the project "National dissemination of combined vision and hearing tests" will receive funding for the period autumn 2024 to winter 2026. The project, which was promoted by HLF, will make the test more accessible by eliminating the need for recipients to pay for the test, installation or staff training. Increasing recognition in the professional community

The test is attracting increasing attention in the professional community. In addition to articles in Din Hørsel, Dagens Medisin and Optikeren, the test was recently featured (for the second time) in "Audiographers", the member magazine of the Audiographers' Association. This contributes to increased awareness of the test's possibilities among the country's audiographers.

Research and development

Two students at the NTNU audiography programme have chosen to use the Eikholt test in their bachelor thesis. They will collect data for the 70+ age group, which will help to further improve the test's normative database and strengthen the test's usefulness for this important patient group. The test is also installed at Department of Special Needs Education (ISP) at the University of Oslo and available to master's students there.

The development continues

Work on new improvements and expanded functionality continues. The test has been requested in several languages, in addition to the Swedish version, which is currently being prepared for distribution to Swedish audiologists. We have some very exciting news in store.
