Borlaug - course building at Eikholt

At Eikholt you will find a course building called Borlaug. Here you'll find three course rooms, a break area with a café table, chairs and access to hot and cold drinks. You'll also find a massage chair that can be used during breaks, mid-hours and afternoons/evenings. But why is the building called Borlaug?
Kirsten and Ole Borlaug's scholarship
The building at Eikholt, known as Borlaug, is named after Kirsten and Ole Borlaug's scholarship for the deafblind. The scholarship was established in 1990 through a bequest from doctor Kirsten Borlaug.
Kirsten Borlaug was a doctor in Grünerløkka in Oslo. She was married but childless, and Kisten Borlaug bequeathed a large part of her fortune to the establishment of the endowment. This happened at the same time as Eikholt was established. Kirsten Borlaug became acquainted with deafblind people and worked for deafblind people in connection with her medical practice and the fact that her mother became deafblind. Through her gift, she wanted to contribute to increased opportunities for employment and a more meaningful life for deafblind people.
Eikholt's director was a representative on the board of the scholarship, and the scholarship also received other testamentary gifts. Borlaug's endowment distributed gifts to various endeavours in the field of deafblindness. In 2009, Eikholt received financial support of approximately NOK 1 million for Borlaug's scholarship for the remodelling of the course rooms that are now called Borlaug 1, Borlaug 2 and Borlaug 3.
The Borlaug scholarship was discontinued in 2010.
